Vince Wills Named as Family Law Practitioner of the Year

Congratulations to Vince Wills on being named the Family Law Practitioner of the Year by the Family Law Section of the Bar Association of Montgomery County!  This honor is given in recognition of his contributions and commitment to continuing legal education for lawyers.  The Section is hosting a celebratory event on June 19, 2017 honoring Vince.

Vince has been a partner in the firm since 2001, after joining Dragga & Callahan in 1996.  Since 1996, his practice has concentrated primarily on family law, and particularly on complex litigation and appellate matters.

Most recently, Vince co-chaired the 21st Annual Symposium on Family Law.  He was the Moderator for the Electronically Stored Information (ESI) seminar for the Maryland Bar Association, and co-presenter with Kathleen Dumais on the topic of discussing relocation in custody disputes for the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers of Maryland, Virginia, and DC Joint Chapter Spring Retreat.

Property Related Tax Issues in Divorce

On January 19, 2017, Heather CollierErik Arena, and tax attorney Eric Rollinger  of Stein, Sperling, Bennett, De Jong, Driscoll, PC, will be speaking before the Family Law Section of the Bar Association for Montgomery County, Maryland, for part 3, the final part of their 3-part series of Programs on tax issues, entitled: “Property Related Tax Issues in Divorce.”   This program will cover a number of tax issues related to the transfer, division and equitable distribution of property incident to divorce and the challenges that arise during a separation and divorce regarding past, present, and future income tax return filings, all of which should be on a family law attorney’s mind when structuring a settlement agreement or advocating for a particular property division before the court.  Heather and Erik look forward to sharing their insights with their fellow colleagues in January. 

WBA’s Annual Scholarship Dinner at Normandie Farms

Heather Collier, President of the Montgomery County Women’s Bar Association, will welcome guests and kick-off the WBA’s Annual Scholarship Dinner at Normandie Farms in Potomac, Maryland on Monday, September 26, 2016.   Following the success of the WBA’s 2016 Triennial Auction, the Association donated $30,000.00 to the Women’s Bar Foundation in support of the Foundation’s academic scholarship program.  The Foundation awards scholarships to men and women pursuing their undergraduate and law school degrees, many of whom have overcome significant obstacles in life to pursue an education and be successful.  

Heather Collier - Incoming President of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association

Congratulations to Heather Collier on being the Incoming President of the Montgomery County Chapter of the WBA for the 2016 to 2017 year. Heather will take over from Past-President Kathryn McDonough in June, 2016. The Montgomery County Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association is very active in the community. The chapter hosts several events throughout the year, including a Judicial Reception for our Circuit Court judges and court personnel, and the Fall Forum, an event designed to provide life coaching to teenage girls in our local high schools. The MCWBA Chapter puts on a Triennial auction to support the Chapter and provide charitable donations to local organizations. Heather Collier Co-Chaired the Auction Committee for six years, along with Lili Khozeimeh, the Adoption/Guardianship Case Manager at the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD Family Division Services, ending their tenure with the enormously successful March 5, 2016 Auction held in Silver Spring.

On February 25, 2016, Heather Collier, Erik Arena, and tax attorney Eric Rollinger of Stein, Sperling, Bennett, De Jong, Driscoll, PC, will be speaking before the Family Law Section of the Bar Association for Montgomery County, Maryland, on the topic: “Child-related Tax Issues—What are they and what do you do with them?” This program will cover a number of tax issues related to filing status(es), dependency exemptions, and related tax credits and deductions, which should be on every family law attorney’s radar as a part of any case involving children. Both Heather and Erik are excited to share their knowledge and insights with their fellow colleagues in February.
