Heather Collier has practiced family law at the firm of Dragga, Hannon, Hessler & Wills, LLP, since 2005, becoming a partner in January, 2015. She joined the firm after completing her judicial clerkship with the Honorable J. Ramsey Johnson of the District of Columbia Superior Court. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Denison University, cum laude, in 2001, and her Juris Doctor from the American University-Washington College of Law, cum laude, in 2004. In her practice, she represents clients in all aspects of complex family law litigation and negotiation. She is often appointed by the Montgomery County Circuit Court to represent children as a Child Privilege Attorney in disputed custody cases.
After being named a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers from 2009 to 2013, Heather was named as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of family law by Maryland Super Lawyers and Baltimore Magazine in 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017. In 2015, Heather was also selected to Super Lawyers list of Top 100 Attorneys in Maryland and to Super Lawyers list of Top 50 Women Attorneys in Maryland. Heather was recognized by The Daily Record as one of the 2012 Leading Women. This honor is bestowed upon Leading Women age 40 or younger for the tremendous accomplishments they have made so far in their career. They are judged on professional experience, community involvement, and a commitment to inspiring change.
Heather is actively involved in the legal community and the Bar Association of Montgomery County. She has served as past Chair of the Mentor/Mentee Committee and Co-Chair of the New Practitioner’s Section, past Co-Chair of the Professionalism and Quality of Life Committee, and past Co-Chair of the Community Outreach Committee. She has also served as a general member of the Family Law Section, the Bar Association Capital Campaign, Social Committee, and Youth Courthouse Project Committee. Currently, Heather serves on the Montgomery County Bar Foundation Board, the Judicial Selections Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Leadership Academy Committee. In addition to the County Bar Association, Heather is also actively involved in the Women’s Bar Association, having previously served several terms as a member at large on the Executive Committee and she currently Co-Chairs the WBA Triennial Charity Auction. She is also a prior member of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Inns of Court.
As a result of her continued commitment to the Bar Association, Heather was inducted as a Bar Leader of the Montgomery County Bar Foundation in 2007, and received the Bar President’s citation for Outstanding Service to the Association in 2007, 2008, and 2010.
